The Sherwood Back to School Bash is on Thursday, August 31. It's the Sherwood community's chance to welcome the school year back with open arms and outdoor fun.
There are a few changes to the event this year:
The Sherwood PTA would love to welcome you our wonderful school. We think you are going to love Sherwood! Here's some helpful tips to get you ready for the school year ahead.
1. If you are a Facebook person, you should join the Sherwood Parents Group. It's the best place to get your questions answered quickly.
2. School shopping is hassletown. Bright SchoolKitz make it easy. It's like Amazon for school supplies. Pay now, and a box of perfect supplies will be waiting on your kid's desk. You have until 8/15 to sign up.
3. Drop off and pick up are intense, like every sitcom you've ever seen. You don't use the rotunda in front of the school, instead kids are dropped off at the gym door. You've gotta wait until you are at the door to let them out.
4. There are two ways to pay for lunch. You can put money in your child's EZ Pay Account online or give them cash each day.
5. If you want to give your child a chance to look around, the Back to School Bash on Thursday, August 31 at 5 p.m. is a great way to do it. If you are new and your child will be in grade 1 or above, there's a new family orientation at 4 p.m. on the 31st as well. Kindergarten parents, you will have another time scheduled for this, don't worry.
6. We have an excellent, PTA-produced newsletter that goes out each week during school called NewsBytes. Sign up here. Principal Hamilton also sends out a weekly message to parents.
7. This website is another great resource. It's updated each week!
8. Last, but not least, consider joining our PTA. Your $10 membership fee gives you access to the Holy Grail of Sherwood info - The Directory. It's the only place to get the names, phone numbers and email addresses of that kid your child is badgering you to set a playdate with. Plus, the PTA is a great place to do great work for your child's school alongside some very warm-hearted folks.
Welcome to Sherwood!
Congratulations to the following parents who were presented with the PTA Friend of Children Award!
Marleen has served as the After School Enrichment chair since 2011. Over the years she has brought and implement many new classes to Sherwood including theater, sewing class, dance and many, many, more. She has also volunteered in the classroom and for various activates during her time at Sherwood.
Laura has spent the last four years as the head coach for the Sherwood Rappin Ropes team and prior to that she spent 4 years as a grade level coach. As coach Laura has spent many hours scheduling performances, conducting tryouts and practices, emailing parents, planning the family show and much more.

Olympic Day is still on, but mother nature demanded the date be changed, twice.
Sixth graders will be participating in Olympic Day on Monday, May 22 from approximately 9:30 - 1:00.
All 6th Grade students from all Forest Hills school will come together to compete in various sporting events. The event will be held at Anderson High School. Due to construction, parking is very limited and all volunteers will be shuttled to the school from Nagel. We need 20 volunteers to help run the event. Please sign up below if you can help - all roles are needed for the entire timeframe. Volunteers will leave Nagel via shuttle at 8:40 or 9:00 or you can be dropped off at AHS.
When signing up, please comment if you cannot be on the early shuttle so I will assign you a role that leaves at 9:00. You will be shuttled back to your car after. All volunteers will be assigned a specific role such as Group Leader, Event Tallier, water table, Event overseer, etc. and will be provided instructions before the event. If volunteers become full, other parents are welcome to come to watch as spectators.
We are also in need of volunteers to run a special lunch back at school after the Olympics. This involves picking up the subs from Jersey Mikes, setting up and serving the lunch to the kids. In addition, we need parents to sign up to bring some side items for the lunch.
You can sign up to volunteer HERE.

Please help your child show his/her gratitude for amazing Sherwood teachers by participating in daily activities during Teacher Appreciation Week. Thank you!
Monday, May 8th: bring a kind note/card to your teacher
Tuesday, May 9th: dress like your favorite superhero (no masks or pretend weapons)
Wednesday, May 10th: bring in a flower for your teacher
Thursday, May 11th: bring in a book dedicated to your teacher for his/her classroom library
Friday, May 12th: dress like your teacher (think about favorite sports teams, favorite colors, etc)
If you have any questions, please contact Christina Beilfuss.
Tonight is a very special night for the Sherwood community. Tonight, our building will be filled with artwork from the best artists I know (our students) and our Fifth and Sixth Grade Chorus will be starting the night off with some beautiful music. However, tonight is also a time of celebration- celebrating almost one full school year in a newly renovated building. To help us celebrate, we have some special guests from our school community (Mr. Scot T. Prebles-FHSD Superintendent, Dr. Forest Heis- FHSD Board of Education President, Ray Johnson-FHSD Director of Buisness Operations) who will share a few words with us during the chorus concert.
The 5th and 6th Grade chorus will begin singing in the gym at 6:00pm. If you are not planning on attending the concert, all artwork will be on display beginning at 6pm as well.
Artwork will be displayed in the front entryway, and down the intermediate and primary hallways.
Parking will be at a premium tonight! I strongly encourage to carpool, walk (if possible and weather permitting) or look for parking on the sidestreets. The only parking in Sherwood's circle drive will be along the inside (non-sidewalk side). The sidewalk side of the circle drive needs to remain completely open in case of an emergency. Also, please do not block the entrance to the drive by parking in the grass. Our neighbors appreciate you taking care of their yards!
I look forward to seeing all of you this evening!
