Sherwood is once again offering the Kids’ Flying Pig Marathon Program. This is an incremental marathon offered through the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon. Students log a mile at a time toward their goal of 26.2 miles.
They will use a “Hog Log” to record their miles. The last mile of the marathon will take place on Saturday, May 6th at Noon on the actual Marathon Course during Marathon Weekend.

When registering, be sure to mark “yes” for question #2, then choose Sherwood from the drop down menu. Please try to register as soon as possible and get started on those nutritional and exercise goals! (Cost is $10 through Oct 31, will eventually go up to $15)
Incentive: We will again have an extra gym class incentive for the class (K-3) that registers the most kids for the Flying Pig by December 1st.
(note: we will have a separate extra gym class incentive for 4-6th graders in March for registering for the Flying Pig 5K)
Flying Pig Art: Every student who registers will get to decorate their own pig. This pig will hang in the cafeteria to show each student‘s progress toward completion of the 26.2 miles. Mrs. Smith will send these home from art class for your child to decorate and return.
Hog Logs: Once registered, your child will receive their Hog Log to record their miles (keep this throughout the year to track progress). The parent who registers will also receive email updates and tracking information. This year, your child will only bring the hog log in to school twice. When they reach a half marathon (13 miles), they can take their log to gym class and Mr. Taylor will have an incentive prize for them. Then, for our final celebration with Smoothie King, in May, they can bring it in to show off their accomplishments. (otherwise, we will have electronic tracking)
Flying Pig Goodies: Every child who registers receives a Flying Pig t-shirt, a poster and a medal. They also receive a free Reds ticket for a game in May in which they have the FP participants parade around the field before the game.
Recess Walking: We will try to open the walking trail as much as possible at recess so that your child can log a mile or a portion of a mile during their recess. We need volunteers to be able to do this.

A lot of the kids really enjoy this; it is a fun volunteer opportunity!
Many of the 4th-6th graders are now ready to “Fly Up” and train for the Flying Pig 5K. As above, we will have a separate class competition for an extra gym class for the class that has the most registered for the Flying Pig in March. Archers running club will begin in March and we encourage all 4th-6th graders to join and train together for both the FP 5K as well as the Forest Hills 5K (both in May). More info will come out later in the year about registering for the 5K, etc. However, if your child loves the incremental marathon, they can still certainly sign up for that.
Important Parent Information: If there is any chance you will want to walk with your child at the Final Mile Event during Marathon Weekend, You Must Register! Every participant on the course must be registered, including parents. This is for the safety of all participants and helps in planning the logistics of the day for the Flying Pig Marathon planning committee.
